An Update on What’s Going on.

April 21, 2010

The “Service Pack 2” project has been suspended for reasons I’m not yet disclosing. I’ve decided to continue with the blog format for some time longer. And I’ve got some great posts lined up that contains classic STOP Error material (DRM, rants and raw anger).

It’s Here! Well, Somewhat

April 14, 2010

Here it is: STOP Error Service Pack 2, as I’ve called it. It’s not finished, but it’s a representation of the near final product. Tell me what you think about it.

Real Soon, Now.

April 8, 2010

STOP Error Service Pack 2 (as I’ve codenamed it) is currently in development. Some of the major changes from the current incarnation is that it won’t be a “blog” anymore. I’ve always thought the blog format was a bit restricting, in that I couldn’t easily format and plan out the site in a way that I desired. The blog posts/comments/resources from here will be transferred to my new site, so you won’t have to fear that all your insightful comments were deleted. Since it’s no longer going to be a blog format, I’ve been wondering on how I should do it? Should I link each and every post I make to a thread in a forum and have users comment there? Should I create a custom comment solution? Should I just some hosted service (like Andrew used to use)? They’re all good questions. And they’re questions that are going to get answered. Expect the “RTM” for Service Pack 2 to be in May or June. I want Service Pack 2 to be something I can be proud of, not something I shoved out just to say I finally released it. Think more of a “It’s done when it’s done”, aka: Duke Nukem Forever.

Changes are Coming Soon…

April 7, 2010

Yes, Stop Error has been dead for the last year, pretty much. Yes, you all probably thought I decided that enough was enough and that I was going to call it quits soon enough (the blog has pretty much been on “life support” for around a year now). However, that is NOT true, folks. Stop Error is coming back, and it’s coming back big (well, compared to its current incarnation). Be ready.

Please Stop Copying my Posts. Thank you very much!

February 3, 2010

Today I check my blog dashboard and I see several references from an Australian computer forum. So, I decide to click on it and I find that someone copy/pasted my blog post. I’m all for open source/creative commons, but I must say that I much like having my own opinions copyrighted and protected by me. You may use portions of my posts in any article/post of your own, but I request that you reference the original source (that is, myself).
Thank you.

It’s Like Everyone’s Blog is Dying.

December 19, 2009

The last post I made on my blog was on November 15. The last time I posted multiple entries in one week was months ago. And then there’s the fact that Andrew Turnbull has stopped blogging, and that Don’s blog is down. It makes me think, do most blogs die within a year? Hell, do most blogs die within 1 or 2 postings? (My original blogs did just that). Do we stop because everything we wanted to blog about was already blogged about? Or do we stop because we get tired of posting a lot, and finally just forget about?

It’s a question I’ve been meaning to ask, and I’ve always wanted to hear the answer. And then there’s the question of “Should I stop with this blog? With just 5,037 views since I started it just over a year ago.

This is post 100 and…

July 29, 2009

Can’t believe we’re finally at the 100th post. I also can’t believe I started this blog on November 29, 2008. Has anything really changed all that much? Yes. I’ve finally started “liking” GNOME (I like the Dust theme). A tweaked GNOME on CentOS (my new distro of choice), and I’m good to go. Plus, I can’t believe my rant back in January got 28 comments.

Boring. Boring. Boring.

June 5, 2009

Months back I commented that the Internet, or at least the portion of the Internet I frequent, seems to have died. What’s happened since then? If anything it’s gotten worse, not better. My IRC channel has gotten even more dead, Slashdot has started to suck more, and Usenet? It’s all file downloads these days. The blog? Dead too. A few months ago it had insight, and some witty-ness. These days? “Oh, do I have to post another blog entry?”, and I fill it with random crap.

Time to Throw in the Towel?

June 1, 2009

Fellow blogger Andrew Turnbull is contemplating if he should stop updating his blog. So have I. I fell that the quality of the content has gone from decent to mediocre to plain ole’ garbage. I also used to post blog entries almost everyday, but these days I don’t. The front page (as of now) contains posts from June 1st to April 3rd, while the 2nd page contains posts from April 2nd to March 3rd. In other words, I’ve been slacking off on content and quality.

Should I throw in the towel and be done or should I attempt to reinvent my blog?

I found this site called browsershots.org and submitted this site. The results can be seen here. Cool, eh?
