I’ve got a new (well not quite) laptop!

Yesterday I’ve obtained an IBM ThinkPad 600X. This paticular one has a Pentium III 650, 128MB of RAM, a 12GB hard drive, and a Linksys PCMCIA 802.11G card. Sadly, though, the battery doesn’t seem to work (it’s a known defect with 600 series ThinkPads), and the AC adapter doesn’t seem to want to work (and is rather flaky when it does). I’ve been thinking of purchasing a new AC adapter for it, and using it for something.

You can run a ThinkPad on anything about 9.6 volts or over. Even though it says on the bottom it needs 16 volts, you can just hack the cord off the AC adapter and hook it up to 12 volts (yellow wire) on your desktop’s power supply. Just don’t try charging the battery with it.

Yeah, I found out that it’s probably not the AC adapter itself, but the power connector on the laptop itself. It looks like the yellow plastic(?) is cracked and it sparks whenever I insert the plug into it. If it’s easily fixed, then I may think about doing it, but if not, I’m junking it.
